The esteemed Master’U BNP Paribas Championships will once again take the spotlight from November 29 to December 1, 2024, in Reims, France. Often referred to as 'The World Event of University Tennis,' this competition unites the top university-level tennis talent from across the globe. As the 17th edition of the event commences, it is set to feature an exciting lineup of student-athletes, including Team Australia, which has positioned itself as a significant contender in the tournament.

Australia competes alongside seven other nations—Germany, Belgium, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Switzerland—on an international platform. For the third straight year, the 'RacquetRoos' are set to proudly represent their country with a squad of elite talent sourced from prominent university systems, including NCAA institutions. Following strong performances in the previous two years, where they finished third and fourth in 2022 and 2023 respectively, Team Australia enters the 2024 competition with ambitious goals.

This year, Australia is represented by a talented group of experienced college tennis players, including Maya Joint (University of Texas), Petra Hule (former Florida State University), Lily Fairclough (University of Southern California), Jeremy Jin (University of Florida), Casey Hoole (University of South Carolina), and Derek Pham (Oklahoma State University). These athletes bring a significant amount of experience, developed through years of high-level competition in university tennis.

Maya Joint, making her debut representing Australia, shared her enthusiasm for the chance to compete. 'I am thrilled to be playing for Australia in the Master’U BNP Paribas event. This will be my first time officially donning the green and gold, and it means a lot to me,' she stated. Joint, who has excelled in her transition from junior to senior tennis, highlighted the remarkable growth and experiences she has achieved this year, which have strengthened her resolve to excel for her nation.

The coaching partnership of David Hodge, Director of Athletes Agency International, and Chris Mahony, NTA Coach and Head of US College, will guide the team in what is expected to be an exhilarating competition. Hodge, reflecting on Australia's rich heritage in college tennis, expressed enthusiasm about the team's potential. 'Australia has been home to some of tennis' most legendary figures through this pathway, and we are keen to uphold that legacy,' he stated. With two commendable finishes in recent years, Hodge believes that this year's team is well-positioned to compete for the title.

Chris Mahony, who is coaching at the Master’U BNP Paribas Championships for the first time, shared his excitement about the event and his work alongside Hodge. 'This competition is an essential component of Tennis Australia’s College Program, and David’s enthusiasm for college tennis has been a key factor in Australia’s participation in this event,' Mahony commented. The collaboration between Hodge and Mahony, combined with the skills of the players, positions Team Australia as a powerful contender as they aim to strengthen their standing in the realm of international university tennis.

With the competition approaching, Team Australia is prepared to face the world, combining seasoned experience, up-and-coming talent, and a steadfast team spirit. The RacquetRoos are set for another impressive performance on the international stage. Regardless of whether they come away with the trophy, their participation in this esteemed event reinforces Australia’s reputation as a dominant force in the realm of college tennis.
